I believe art is liberatory.

From an early age, I was instilled with a deep sense of spiritual values, community connection, and shared responsibility. As I grew to better understand my own bi-racial and queer identity, my passion for social justice only continued to expand. So, beyond teaching in high schools and universities, my personal narrative has always included themes of engagement, activism, and community-based arts.

Mud-Based Artist

During the social isolation of the pandemic, I turned to POT, a community-based pottery studio for and by people of color in Echo Park, L.A. It was there that I developed an appreciation for the tactile, responsive, and transformative nature of working with clay. Since then, my pastime has evolved into a passion project that allows me to throw and handcraft each piece in support of justice and freedom.

2025 Beneficiary

The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles (CHIRLA) was founded in 1986 to advance the human and civil rights of immigrants and refugees. The nonprofit became an important place for organizations and people who support human rights to work together for policies that advance justice and full inclusion for all immigrants.
